We have just as much experience performing weight loss surgery procedures as we do helping our patients obtain approval from their insurance company. If insurance is not available you may be interested in a self pay plan offered through St. Mary's Hospital.

Many insurance plans will cover bariatric (weight loss) surgery if you meet the National Institute of Health guidelines. It is your responsibility to contact your insurance company to be sure they will pay for the surgery. Some questions you should ask include:

  • Is the surgeon in my insurance network?
  • Is bariatric surgery a covered benefit under my plan?
  • Is laparoscopic banding a covered benefit in my policy?
  • Is Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery covered under my policy?
  • Are there special requirements, such as a physician-supervised diet and/or exercise program, that must be done before the surgery can be approved?
  • Our Surgery Program will request approval from your insurance company and send copies of all your medical records. If you receive a denial from your insurance company due to a special requirement, please contact your primary care physician to help you meet that requirement.
Appeals are possible and the procedure is outlined in your insurance handbook or at your Human Resources Department. We will assist you in the appeals process.

Financing may be available through National City Bank. Find out if that is an option that is right for you at their website.
