![]() In the United States, obesity ranks as the number one cause of disability and preventable death. It transcends all age groups from children to seniors. Those who’ve had the weight loss surgery did not come to the decision to undergo this major procedure quickly or easily. It is by no means an “easy way out” and requires a great deal of preparation, education and a lifelong commitment. So that our patients can continue to succeed and enjoy a normal life, we have also made a lifelong commitment by establishing programs like our Educational Seminars and Forever Thin support group. Do you qualify for surgical weight loss? Each case, each patient is studied and evaluated on an individual basis. First, you must be considered morbidly obese. This translates to being at least 100 pounds overweight, or twice your ideal body weight, with a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or more. It means your risk of dying from obesity-related health issues, such as heart disease, high blood pressure or diabetes, outweighs the risks associated with the surgery. See the chart on this page to calculate your BMI. A BMI of 35 to 40 is also considered morbidly obese, if accompanied by other serious conditions. |
