A Laparoscope is a thin, lighted telescope used for diagnostic purposes as well as minimally-invasive surgeries for the gallbladder, appendix, hernia and abdominal cavities. It is also utilized for some of the surgical weight loss procedures.

Through a small incision, the telescope is inserted and transmits live, high resolution pictures of the abdominal cavity to a television screen. Through other small incisions, instruments can be inserted to perform the various steps of the procedure. The advantages of laparoscopy include a shortened post-operative period and less post-operative pain.
